You will see that notification orange icon near the Shut Down button that tells you there are updates that will be installed before it Shuts Down, so click on Shut Down so it begins applying updates.Īlthough it may sometimes be pretty quick for that notification to show up to tell you about the updates and of course this is the ideal outcome, it may also tell you something wildly ridiculous about beginning to install 287 updates. Instead, just let it sit for a little bit and it should be able to start pulling down updates for Windows automatically. Log in to the PC and make sure it's connected to the network so it has an internet connection but DON'T open Windows Update to search for updates. THEN install this hotfix and restart the PC. Then before you run that hotfix, MAKE SURE to STOP the Windows Updates service so it's not running. The best solution I have discovered is to download KB3102810. Some computers I've left sitting connected to the network on Friday, only to come back on Monday to find that they still have not received an update despite my company's policy settings that are configured for nightly updates.

I have been running into that exact same issue on every Win 7 SP1 I have installed on Lenovo, HP and Toshiba laptops.
